A few weeks back, I walked through Precinct 13 neighborhoods, chatting and visiting with a number of residents. When I knocked at the door of Edna G., she told me she likes the way I handle young people — like her grandson. Edna attended court with him. He was a criminal defendant. She said, “I liked the fact that you didn’t take any stuff from him,” and said her grandson would never believe I stopped by their home. I told her to go grab her cell phone. Then, I had my son, who was walking with me, take a photo of grandma and the judge.

I always get a charge out of this part of the campaign. It’s good to come down off the bench now and then, take off the judge’s robe and just talk to people, up close and personal. It’s important to me to hear your concerns, listen to your ideas, and understand your hopes for our community. What I learn I take back with me to the courtroom.

Many of you told me about your sons and daughters serving overseas. Together, we took time to honor them and to remember those who have fallen in defense of our country.

In the next few weeks, I hope to visit your neighborhood. I look forward to seeing old friends, meeting new constituents, and being of assistance.

Blessings!
